Hypnosis merupakan sebuah metode yang telah diakui di USA sejak tahun 1958, yaitu metode klinis untuk mengatasi berbagai permasalahan emosional. Dewasa ini beberapa Universitas di USA telah membuka program Diploma maupun Doctoral dibidang Hypnosis. Inilah yang membedakan bahwa Hypnosis di Negara maju telah menjadi sebuah materi pembelajaran yang disusun berdasarkan hasil-hasil riset klinis, serta telah disempurnakan seiring dengan perkembangan zaman. Oleh karena itu, fenomena Hypnotism sebenarnya sama sekali tidak berhubungan dengan Magic ataupun Mistik, tetapi fenomena tersebut diteliti sebagai suatu kondisi seseorang dimana perhatiannya lebih terfokus dan pikiran bawah sadarnya (Sub-Concious Mind) bekerja lebih maksimal.
