OAP Shuts Down The Internet An old woman from Georgia has inadvertently shut down her countrys internet supply. She was digging for scrap metal in north of the capital, in a village named Ksani. She cut the cable whilst searching for copper. On discovering the cable, she attempted to steal it it and sell the copper for scrap. A Georgian interior ministry spokesman, Zura Gvenetadze has this to say; She found the cable while collecting scrap metal and cut it with a view to stealing it. Taking into account her advancing years, she has been released pending the end of the investigation and subsequent trial. Her misdemeanour brought down internet connections in Georgia for several hours, but the neighbouring country Armenia was worst affected, with 90% of all users being forced offline. The three main internet providers in Armenia ArmenTel, GNC-Alfa and FiberNet Communication could not provide internet service to the vast majority of their customers on 28th March. The cable was also connected to Azerbaijan and Turkey. The pensioner could face up to three years in prison if convicted. The company responsible for the fibre optic cable, Georgian Railway Telecom (GRT), released this statement; I cannot understand how this lady managed to find and damage the cable. It has robust protection and such incidents are extremely rare. Not that rare apparently. Unbelievably, this is not the first time this situation has occurred in Georgia. In 2009, many Georgians internet connections were affected by a remarkably similar incident, also involving someone scavenging for scrap metal in the ex-Soviet state. And its doubtful the previously mentioned protection qualifies as robust, unless the word robust has been redefined as something a 75 year old woman can cut through and sell for scrap metal. GRTs slogan is your reliable partner in the Caucasus region. http://www.loudmouthbadger.co.uk/269...-internet.html ![]() ![]() ![]() Terkait:
