Pagi/siang/sore/malam, agan-agan sekalian.

Tau Dream Theater kan? Ane mau ngeshare nih tentang album mereka yg paling ane suka, judulnya Metropolis Pt. 2: Scenes from a Memory. Ane ga ngeshare yg Images and Words, yg di album itu ada lagu prekuel album ini "Metropolis Pt. 1" soalnya ane ga begitu suka, gan.

Metropolis Pt. 2: Scenes from a Memory adalah album studio kelima band progressive metal Amerika Dream Theater yang dirilis pada tahun 1999. Album ini adalah album konsep yang bercerita tentang seorang pria bernama Nicholas dan pengungkapan kehidupan lampaunya, sebagai Victoria Page, yang melibatkan percintaan, pembunuhan, dan ketidaksetiaan. Album ini direkam di BearTracks Studios di New York, tempat band ini dulu merekam album kedua mereka Images and Words (1992) dan EP A Change of Seasons (1995).

Album ini merupakan sekuel dari lagu "Metropolis, Pt. 1: The Miracle and the Sleeper", yang merupakan bagian dari album Images and Words. Di sini juga album debut Jordan Rudess (keyboard), dan album terakhir John Myung sebagai penulis lirik (yang baru kembali menulis lirik lagi di album A Dramatic Turn of Events [2011]).

Pada akhir Juli 2012, album ini terdaftar di peringkat pertama "all-time progressive album" (album progresif sepanjang masa) oleh majalah Rolling Stone, mengalahkan album 2112 dari Rush dan Close to the Edge-nya Yes.

Jadi intinya album ini dibuat karena didesak fans yg maksa ke DT agar "Metropolis Pt. 1" dibuat lagu sekuelnya. (Padahal judul aslinya cuma "Metropolis", si Petrucci iseng nambahin 'Pt. 1'. Aslinya ga ada rencana bikin lagu lanjutan). Nah setelah didesak ya malah sekalian bikin album.

Nah abis deskripsi singkat albumnya sekarang masuk ke penjelasan masing-masing lagu. Oh iya, sebelum itu, karokean dulu nyok. Nih, update-an dari agan rakamaru:

Salah satu review di sputnikmusic.com bilang kalo ini lagu pembuka yg cukup bagus. Pengiring vokalnya cuma gitar akustik; di bagian akhir ada nada "The Spirit Carries On", liriknya juga mirip. Di lagu ini, ceritanya Nicholas lagi ngejalanin hipnoterapi. Dia dihipnotis sampe akhirnya masuk ke keadaan trance, terus ngeliat seorang perempuan, yg namanya Victoria, dia langsung nyapa perempuan itu.

2. "Overture 1928"

Ini lagu instrumental urutan pertama di album. Balik lagi ke sputnikmusic.com, lagu ini punya groove yg keren, sama permainan solo yg juga cukup keren, jika ga bisa dibilang luar biasa. Lagu ini ngambil banyak komposisi dari reff "Metropolis Pt. 1" (lagu ya, bukan album). Terus bagian-bagian lagu ini diambil buat ngisi beberapa bagian dari lagu "The Dance of Eternity", "Strange Deja Vu", "One Last Time", sama "The Dance Of Eternity", jadi rasanya lagu ini hampir selalu hadir di setiap lagu setelahnya, mirip ringkasan album lah.

Di lagu ini Nicholas mulai rileks dan fokus terhadap apa yg terjadi. Dia ngerasa Victoria mirip sama dia.

Uncanny, strange Deja Vu

But I don't mind

Lagu ini agak sedikit ngepop dibanding lagu DT yg lain. Ceritanya si Nicholas nemu jalan setapak ke sebuah rumah. Pas masuk dia ngeliat di cermin kamar ada seorang gadis yg dia ngerasa pernah ketemu. Karena ini mimpi dari hipnoterapi, pengelihatannya lebih jelas. Setelah mendekat, Nicholas nanya, "Mbak, tau gak kenapa saya bisa di mari?" Nicholas berasumsi kalo ada sesuatu yg pengen disampein gadis itu, sesuatu yg penting. Victoria ngejawab kalo dia lagi cari siapa yg ngebunuh dia. Setelah itu, Nicholas bangun. Biarpun udah bangun, dia masih kebayang-bayang sama mimpinya. Akhirnya dia mutusin buat cari tau apa yg terjadi.

4.. "Through My Words"

Lagu ini dimulai dari permainan piano solo, terus tiba-tiba langsung ke musik keras. Lagunya juga groovy dan permainan solonya luar biasa. Di sini Nicholas mulai sadar kalo Victoria itu masa lalunya, itu kenapa dia ngerasa familiar banget.

5. "Fatal Tragedy"

Musiknya mirip sama lagu yg di atas. Nicholas lagi sendirian. Dia bingung kenapa kayaknya arwah Victoria masih penasaran. Suatu ketika, dia ngunjungin seorang sepuh. Dia diceritain kalo dulu ada gadis yg dibunuh (yg ternyata itu Victoria). Nicholas akhirnya tau apa yg terjadi, terus tambah penasaran kenapa terjadi pembunuhan. Nicholas balik lagi ke tempat hipnoterapis, terus pikirannya melayang ke tempat dan waktu terjadinya pembunuhan.
