The 62-year-old was able to guide Netherlands out of a tricky group containing Spain and Chile to third place in the tournament, following a comfortable 3-0 victory over Brazil in Saturday�s play-off.
And Mourinho, who will come up against Van Gaal when Chelsea face Manchester United next season, believes the Dutchman has been able to get more out of his players than many had anticipated.

�But if I had to choose one, because I think he did a fantastic job with a team that, in my opinion, was not strong enough to reach where they got to, I would choose Louis van Gaal.�
