The best Squier Stratocaster, made in Korea 1996

Objavljeno 18.04.

Cort's Squier 1996

Anyways -- in the later 1990's Fender decided to have Cort build its now famous Squier Pro Tone series (Made in Korea around 1996-1998 then discontinued. Cort made these Squiers not only on the same level as USA Strats but many people will agree that they are much better. Solid Ash bodies, impeccable necks and fret work, etc.). These Squiers are some of the best Strat type guitars ever made.

Excellent - first class. If you look on your headstock and at the tip it says "Pro Tone" you have a collectible guitar (they are slowly becoming as collectable as the JV MIJ Squiers and are on a par with the E series MIJ Squiers)
.

Korean Squiers were also made all during the 1990's and it is hard to date them (unless they are the Pro Tone series which is well known the time these models were made). Most of the Korean Squiers start with a VN or CN serial.

The earliest Korean Squiers contracted by the new FMIC apparently were manufactured in Korea using MIJ parts. But as soon as Cort ramped up production - it was all Cort doing the work even though the decal says Squier (by Fender).

The 'cruddy hardware' etc... is true - but it does not apply to the MIJ Squiers from the 1980's and the Korean Squiers from the 1990's.

Squier guitars had a real drop when Fender decided to contract an Indonesian facility to make most (but not all) of its Squiers. Cort continued to make special run Squiers and Fenders (still does)

and these Korean offerings are still well made for the most part. However - the Indonesian Squiers really can suck. I can't put it any other way. And more recently Squiers are made in China and

this has some mixed results. You can grab a low end Affinity Squier off the hook and play it and it might have sharp frets, unplayable neck and parts falling off of it. You could also pick up another one

and it is really nice playing, well set up and you won't believe it could possibly be $149.00. It's a steal! It seems maybe every 20th guitar Made In China is a keeper.. but that leaves 19 others

destined for the fireplace or compost heap.

I would think you probably have a Korean (Cort) Squier from the 90's and those are really nice guitars. Well made stuff. The Gotoh tuners are a sign that this probably places the date of manufature around 1995-1998 or so. (Cort was shipped the saddles and parts from the Mexi plant so Cort only actually

did the wood - the parts were shipped from Fender).

By this time also the FugiGen-Gakki (sp?) was not offered a renewal contract by Fender Japan and sometime during the later (or mid) 1990's a different MIJ factory made Fender MIJ guitars. (That was the end of the Fender MIJ golden era). The new era

is known as "Crafted in Japan" as the newer non-GenGakki factory no longer uses "Made In Japan" on the guitars and places the serial on the heel of the neck rather than at the headstock.

I forget the name of the factory that now does the "Crafted in Japan" but I do remember it is the name of some huge conglomerate.

You have to realize that in the 1980's the same factory making Fender Japan and Squier Japan was also making high quality Ibanez, Fernandez, Tokai and many other branded names.

Cort (Korea) really stepped up to the plate though and can make guitars as well as any other manufacturer out there today. And if the contractor wants something to high specs - Cort can do it, no problem.

So in conclusion - Without seeing the guitar -

I would say it is CN or VN serial Squier. (guessing obviously) Cort made (korean obviously) and made sometime in the mid to late 1990's. Very nice period for Korean Fender and Squier guitars. Remember - if you have a Pro Tone Squier - you are probably

looking at an appreciation rate of value of at least %15 or more each year. Not too shabby. Already are worth more than what they originally went for

(I think they sold for around $350-400).

And hey - even if it isn't a Pro Tone - any Korean Squier from the 1990's is well made (better than Mexi-Strats today).
