Kuala Lumpur - Kita tentu masih ingat kata 'Indon' panggilan bagi orang Indonesia di Malaysia. Nah, kata itu sempat ramai diperbincangkan publik karena ditengarai berkonotasi negatif.

Tapi, media di Malaysia menyanggah kalau kata 'Indon' bermakna hinaan. Benarkah?

"Itu kependekan dari kata Indonesia. Sama seperti Aussie untuk Australia atau Kiwi untuk New Zealand," kata petinggi media prima Grup, Dato Mohamed Isa saat melakukan pertemuan dengan beberapa wartawan Indonesia di Kuala Lumpur, Rabu (7/7/2011).

Dia menilai, publik Indonesia telah salah paham dengan kata Indon itu. Pastinya, dia menegaskan Malaysia tidak bermaksud melakukan penghinaan sama sekali.

"Tapi media kami sekarang tidak lagi memakai kata Indon," tegasnya.

Media Prima adalah jaringan media terbesar di Malaysia, yang terdiri atas TV3, NT7, TV9, koran News Strait Times, Metro, Berita Harian, dan juga sejumlah radio.

Isa bercerita, redaksinya pernah diundang KBRI Indonesia dan diminta agar tidak memakai kata itu lagi. "Kami memaklumi," imbuhnya.
