Although a rumor had been going around with a newspaper publishing an article on it last month, their company denied the band was going on hiatus. The band's leader, Yoshiki Mizuno, had said that they will be writing new songs while continuing their live performances. But this was not true with sources saying they won't be doing any concerts or live performances.
A source had said that their hiatus would not be more than half a year. They would resume activities by July 2011. Kohaku Uta Gassen will be the last live performance from Ikimono Gakari for now.
Ikimono Gakari is currently one of the most famous bands in Japan, it is quite a shock to hear them going on hiatus for half a year. Yoshioka apologized to everyone stating that "We've run too far so we would like to take a rest. Please forgive our selfishness."
