Kitsune Tennouji's Upotte!! Manga Has Anime in the Works

In the story, a newly hired teacher discovers that the female students at his new school all have excellent marksmanship skills — and happen to be anthropomorphized assault rifles. Tennouji launched the manga in the inaugural issue of Kadokawa Shoten's Young Ace magazine in 2009, and the manga has since moved into Kadokawa's 4-Koma Nano Ace and Monthly Shōnen Ace magazines. The second compiled volume of the manga will ship next week. Tennouji's other manga titles include Edens BoWy, Orfina, and Orfina SAGA; Edens BoWy inspired a television anime series in 1999, and ADV Films released the anime in North America. The wraparound jacket band also notes that Tennouji is launching a new manga series called The Gunners in the June issue of Young Ace, which is shipping on May 2. Kadokawa posted a promotional video for the Upotte!! manga in June of 2009, one month before it launched:

Dice Creative's Repotama entertainment news site posted and then removed an article that reported that Kore wa Zombie desu ka? Jigoku Hen (Is This a Zombie? Hell Arc), the second season of the Kore wa Zombie desu ka? anime, will begin airing in Japan next April. The July issue of Fujimi Shobo's Monthly Dragon Age magazine announced the title had been green-lit in June. The first zombie comedy anime series based on Shinichi Kimura's original light novel series aired in Japan from January to March. Crunchyroll streamed the first season outside Japan as it aired. Funimation also announced that it licensed the first season.

Kyoto Animation Announces Hyou-ka Teen Mystery TV Anime

The official website of the studio Kyoto Animation announced on Tuesday that a television anime series adaptation of Honobu Yonezawa's adolescent mystery novel Hyou-ka: You can't escape has been green-lit. The story follows a boy named Hōtarō who is not assertive about getting involved, but was ordered by his older sister to join the classic literature club. In the club, he gets close to the truth about an incident, involving a female member's uncle, which happened 33 years ago. The "energy-saving" boy is joined by an inquisitive girl in this adolescent mystery.
Kadokawa Sneaker Bunko, the imprint behind the Haruhi Suzumiya light novels, published the original Hyou-ka novel. The novel received an honor in the Young Mystery & Horror category of the 5th Kadokawa School Novel Prizes. The book launched Yonezawa's Kotenbu (classic literature club) series that now has five volumes.
Yonezawa also wrote the Shōshimin mystery novel series that has had several manga adaptations, including Anko Manjūya's Shunki Gentei Ichigo Tart Jiken (The Case of the Springtime Limited-Edition Strawberry Tart).

The Japanese publisher Media Factory is announcing on its website that an anime adaptation of Hajime Taguchi's Kono Naka ni Hitori, Imōto ga Iru! (One of Them Is My Younger Sister!) light novel series has been green-lit. The story centers around Shōgo Mikadono, the son of an industrial magnate named Kumagorō Mikadono who passed away. As a final wish, Kumagorō gave Shōgo a condition before Shōgo can inherit the family legacy — find a female mate at school. Shōgo transfers into a school to fulfill that condition. However, he learns that he has a younger sister who was separated at birth. He does not know what his long-lost sister looks like, but she happens to be one of the students at his new school.
Taguchi launched the light novel series last year, and the fifth volume shipped in August. CUTEG (Kokoro Connect manga) illustrates the light novel series, while Mottun* has been adapting the light novel series into a manga (with the subtitle Who is Imouto?) in Media Factory's Monthly Comic Alive magazine since May.

The wraparound jacket band on the first volume of Jun Sasameyuki's Hanasaku Iroha Green Girls Graffiti manga announced on Friday that a new Hanasaku Iroha anime adaptation has been green-lit for next year. The production committee of the Hanasaku Iroha television anime series had announced in October that it was producing a "new visual work" of Hanasaku Iroha next year, but it did not specify if the new work was animated or not.
The Hanasaku Iroha television anime series aired from April to September of this year, and Crunchyroll streamed the anime in several countries as it aired in Japan. The story centers around Ohana Matsumae, a 16-year-old Tokyo native who suddenly ends up working at a provincial hot spring inn after her mother flees town to avoid debts.

The January issue of Enterbrain's Monthly Comic Beam magazine is announcing on Monday that a television anime adaptation of Mari Yamazaki's Thermae Romae manga has been green-lit, along with the previously announced live-action film. A newspaper advertising had previously indicated, but not confirmed, the possibility of the anime. Thermae Romae is a comedy about Lucius — an architect of public bath houses (thermae) in ancient Rome — who time-travels to various modern-day baths in Japan. Through manga and essay passages, Yamazaki explores the two cultures in the world "that have loved baths the most: the Japanese and the Romans!" Yamazaki launched the manga in 2008, and the third compiled book volume shipped on April 25. The live-action film will open on April 28, 2012.
The work won the Manga Taisho (Cartoon Grand Prize) award last year, followed by the Short Work Prize in the 14th Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prizes. It has since sold over 5 million copies. Although Yamazaki was born in Tokyo, she now lives in Chicago.

Nazo no Kanojo X Manga to Get TV Anime



The February issue of Kodansha's Afternoon magazine is revealing on Saturday that Riichi Ueshiba's Nazo no Kanojo X (Mysterious Girlfriend X) romantic comedy manga will get a television anime adaptation. The announcement also notes that the limited edition of the eighth volume of the manga will bundle a drama CD when it is released on February 23. The "unidentifiable love" manga revolves around Akira Tsubaki, who one day notices the anti-social transfer student Mikoto Urabe drooling on her desk while she is sleeping, and he tastes it. Eventually the two begin to date and get to know each other better. The manga has been running in Afternoon since 2006.
Ueshiba also created the Yume Tsukai manga, which received a 12-episode television anime adaptation from MADHOUSE in 2006.

Konami's Sengoku Collection Social Game Gets TV Anime





Shogakukan's Weekly Shonen Sunday magazine is announcing that a television anime adaptation of Konami's Sengoku Collection social game has been green-lit for next spring. The story is set in the tumultuous Sengoku Era of historical Japan, when military masters circle the figurative throne of Japan's first shogunate. In the game, "God of War Cards" have been sealed in six hidden treasures, and fighting breaks out among those who seek the treasures. As a new military master, the player embarks on a journey to obtain the treasures by clearing quests and fighting bosses.

The anime's main character is a female re-imagining of the great warlord Oda Nobunaga (pictured below right). Another major character is the female version of Tokugawa Ieyasu (pictured top left), the first shogun of Japan.

Konami now claims the Sengoku Collection game has a user base of more than 2.5 million.

Aura School Love Comedy Light Novel Gets 2012 Anime Film



The Japanese publisher Shogakukan revealed on the website for its Shonen Sunday Super magazine that a theatrical anime film of Romeo Tanaka's light novel Aura ~Maryūinkōga Saigo no Tatakai will open next year. The 2008 school romantic comedy book revolves around Ichirō "Menzu" Satō, a high school freshman who forgets his textbook at school one day. Ichirō encounters a beautiful girl while sneaking back into his school in the dead of night. The girl calls herself a witch from a parallel world. Ichirō used to suffer delusions of grandeur like this, but vowed to stop so that he can successfully re-invent himself as a freshman in high school.
The manga adaptation of the original novel will start in Shonen Sunday Super in the April issue, which will ship in February. Tanaka is known for his artwork in various adult games, and he has another anime next year: the ]television series based on his Jinrui wa Suitai Shimashita light novel series. Aura illustrator mebae also designed the characters in Noitamina's C television anime series, illustrated the Sugar Dark: Umerareta Yami to Shōjo light novel, and contributed to the animation of Black Rock Shooter and Cencoroll.

Space Bros./Uchū Kyōdai Manga Gets TV Anime Next April



The combined 4th/5th issue of Kodansha's Morning magazine is announcing that a television anime adaptation of Chūya Koyama's Uchū Kyōdai (Space Bros.) manga has been green-lit for an April 2012 premiere. The story follows two brothers, Mutta and Hibito, who made a vow as kids to travel to space. The younger brother Hibito did become an astronaut, but not Mutta. However, Mutta's life changes one fateful day. Shun Oguri (Hana-Kimi, Hana Yori Dango [2005], Fullmetal Alchemist movie [2005]) and Masaki Okada (Hana-Kimi, BokuKimi, Mahō Tsukai ni Taisetsu na Koto) are starring in a separate live-action film adaptation which will open on May 5, 2012. The British rock band Coldplay is contributing the song "Every Teardrop Is a Waterfall" as the theme song.

Jormungand Action Manga Gets TV Anime by White Fox



The wraparound jacket band on the 10th volume of Keitarō Takahashi's Jormungand manga is announcing on Monday that a television anime adaptation by the studio WHITE FOX (Steins;Gate) has been green-lit. The story centers on an underground weapon seller and her accomplices, and it begins when a quiet boy who hates weapons joins the team. The action manga began in Shogakukan's Monthly Sunday GX magazine in 2006, and it will end in the February 2012 issue on January 19. Viz Media began releasing Jormungand in North America in 2009, and the company's English edition of the eighth compiled book will ship on January 10.

Eureka Seven Ao Gets TV Anime in April 2012



The official website for the Eureka Seven: Astral Ocean (Eureka Seven Ao) project announced on Friday in Japan that a television anime version will air starting in April 2012. The anime studio BONES will return to animate the sequel series. The February issue of Kadokawa Shoten's Monthly Shōnen Ace magazine is announcing on Monday that Eureka Seven Ao, a manga sequel to the Eureka Seven television anime series, will launch in the next issue on January 26. The "real mecha epic" will center around a boy named Ao who "set 'destiny' in motion again when he held the 'power.'" Artist Yūichi Katō is drawing the manga based on the original story by the anime studio BONES.
BONES created the original 2005-2006 Eureka Seven television anime series, and the series inspired the 2009 anime film Eureka Seven - good night, sleep tight, young lovers. Bandai Entertainment released both anime projects in North America. Bandai Entertainment also released the main Eureka Seven manga adaptation by Jinsei Kataoka and Kazuma Kondou, and the Eureka Seven: Gravity Boys & Lifting Girl manga spinoff by Miki Kizuki.
