![]() Spoiler for movie:
While the domestic weekend debut of Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides struggles to break $100 million, the Disney release may have exceeded that box office benchmark over its first three days of release on the foreign theatrical circuit. Disney said Saturday that the Wednesday-through-Friday overseas premier of the fourth in the Pirates franchise from producer Jerry Bruckheimer collected a total of $92.1 million -- excluding proceeds of a China opening yet to be accounted for. The three-day tally (minus China), said Disney, is eight percent bigger than the comparable $85.3 million gross registered in the same number of markets by 2007s Pirates of the Caribbean: At Worlds End. In its opening overseas launch, Worlds End grossed $216 million, the third largest offshore debut ever. It went on to become the top foreign grosser of the Pirates titles with total overseas box office of $654 million -- more than double its domestic take. On Friday, On Stranger Tides, completing its international rollout, drew $46.2 million or more than two percent above At World Ends comparable daily figure ($45.4 million) in the same number of territories; and 24 percent above the daily gross ($37.4 million) of the second sequel, 2006s Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Mans Chest. Biggest foreign market so far for On Stranger Tides is Russia, where the three-day market cume stands at $15.6 million or nearly 20 percent of the foreign total thus far. The U.K. has thrown off $8.5 million in the same period. France generated $6.8 million, Italy $4.3 million and Australia $4.1 million. Worldwide total for On Stranger Tides currently stands at $127.1 million, said Disney. The first three titles in the Pirates series including 2003s Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl -- have grossed a total of $2.68 billion worldwide, of which $1.65 billion came from foreign playoff. sumber :The Hollywood Reporter Last edited by maximillianw; 22nd May 2011 at 04:26 PM. |
