Preikestolen dikenal dengan terjemahan bahasa Inggris dari Mimbar Pengkhotbah atau Batu Mimbar, dan oleh Hyvlatonn� (nama lokal)[pisau tukang kayu], adalah sebuah tebing besar 604 meter (1982 kaki) di atas Lysefjorden. Bagian atas tebing adalah sekitar 25 kali 25 meter (82 hingga 82 kaki) persegi, dan merupakan daya tarik wisata yang terkenal di Norwegia.



Tebing ini terbentuk selama zaman Es, sekitar sekitar 10.000 tahun yang lalu, ketika tepi gletser mencapai tebing. Air dari gletser membeku di celah-celah gunung dan akhirnya patah, blok sudut, yang kemudian dibawa pergi dengan gletser. Ini adalah penyebab dari bentuk sudut dataran tinggi. Sepanjang dataran tinggi itu sendiri ada terus menjadi retak dalam.
