Indonesian Suspected Behind Singapore Web Site Hack Attack
An inactive Web site belonging to Singapore school the Raffles Institution was hacked into this week.
The school said the incident had taken place on Wednesday afternoon.
On Thursday night, visitors to RI�s old admissions page (rp.ri.edu.sg) were greeted by an eagle crest and the words �Indonesia Independence� against a plain black screen.
The work was attributed to �juan666� and an Indonesian flag was placed at the bottom of the page. The day of the incident � Aug. 17 � coincided with Indonesia�s independence day.
By Friday morning, the hacked Web site had been taken down by the school�s administration.
Chelsia Ho, RI�s head of corporate communications, said the Web site had been inactive since the start of the year.
Since there was no damage or data loss, no police report was made, she added.
When asked who the culprits could be, she declined comment, saying it would be pure speculation.
Separately, visitors to RI�s main Web site (www.ri.edu.sg (http://www.ri.edu.sg)) on Thursday night were greeted by a wall of text that looked like computer coding.
The school said the shutdown of its main Web site was not linked to the hacking case but was due to database-related issues.
Checks by The Straits Times showed that the site was fully restored by noon on Friday.
