The Chupacabra is a high gain overdrive/distortion pedal modeled after the early small box non-LED Rat pedal. While the early Rat is good sounding, I found the overall tone to be too bright and somewhat buzzy sounding. The Chupacabra's frequency range has been modified to be fuller and thicker sounding, never brittle or harsh sounding. In addition, the annoying Filter control of the Rat is gone, replaced with a conventional tone control.
The 3-way switch on the pedal gives you three distinct sounds. The up setting is Asymmetrical and has a very thick distortion tone. The middle setting is Boost, named because this setting clips the signal less and is the loudest, with the gain reduced this setting makes a great overdrive. The bottom position is Symmetrical and has a slightly smoother tone. Using this switch and the gain control gives you access to a number of different tones, great for adjusting to different guitars or rooms for live use.
Only the best components are used: a NOS LM308 chip and tantalum capacitors, Switchcraft jacks, top quality 3PDT stomp switch for true bypass, mil-spec socketed IC, carbon composition resistors and top quality film caps. In addition, the Chupacabra is built on a commercial grade circuit board and is housed in a cast aluminum box that is very tough

#2 - Boiling point by Rockbox
The Rockbox� Boiling Point� Overdrive Boost incorporates a 3 position diode selector for a nearly endless variety of harmonic flavor. In the Plexi mode, the pedal has very Marshall-like response. For the Symetrical Overdrive mode, we gave the pedal a truly organic, tube-like distortion, with greater output. You will notice the overtones and response is like no other pedal. The middle position is a clean boost, with more than enough gain to send your favorite tube amp into overdrive heaven. While we gave the Overdrive Boost a tremendous amount of gain, we paid close attention to how the pedal cleans up. If you are a volume knob player, you will love how this pedal will clean up for a thick, creamy clean rhythm sound.
