The Avengers meraup pendapatan terbesar "box office" dalam pemutaran akhir pekan perdananya di Amerika Utara dengan total penjualan tiket yang menembus angka 200,3 juta dolar AS.
Rekor sebelumnya dipegang oleh film "Harry Potter and Deathly Hallows: Part2" yang meraup pendapatan 169,2 juta dolar saat pemutaran perdananya tahun lalu. Meskipun "The Avengers" tidak memecahkan rekor pendapatan pemutaran hari pertama film terakhir Harry Potter itu, tapi film bertema "superhero" itu berhasil mendapat penilaian "A+" dari layanan Cinemascan, lapor Xinhua.
Film buatan Marvel Studios yang dirilis oleh Walt Disney Co. itu diperkirakan akan menembus angka penjualan tiket 641 juta dolar di seluruh dunia, menurut prediksi sejumlah studio yang dikumpulkan Hollywood.com.
Film yang disutradarai Joss Whedon itu menghadirkan beberapa tokoh pahlawan super sekaligus yang sebelumnya sukses dalam film sendiri seperti Iron Man, Hulk, Captain America dan Thor. Selain itu, film tersebut juga dibintangi sejumlah aktor kenamaan yaitu Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner dan Samuel L. Jackson.
Analis "box office" dari Hollywood.com, Paul Dergerabedian, mengatakan prestasi "The Avengers" itu merupakan debut dengan pendapatan akhir pekan terbesar sepanjang sejarah "box office" dan menciptakan patokan pendapatan baru bagi film.
